Rest used to feel like something I had to earn.
If I worked hard enough, did enough, showed up for everyone, then maybe I could take a break. Maybe then I could slow down without feeling guilty.
But even in moments of rest, my mind didn’t always rest.
There was always something else I should be doing. Something I hadn’t finished. Something I needed to fix.
So I kept going.
Because stopping felt uncomfortable.
Somewhere along the way, I started to realize something important.
Sometimes healing looks like rest.
It looks like allowing yourself to pause without needing a reason.
It looks like stepping away before you reach the point of exhaustion.
It looks like choosing to be still, even when your mind tells you to keep going.
For many of us, rest doesn’t come easily.
We’ve been taught to stay busy.
To be productive.
To keep pushing, even when we’re tired.
But healing often asks something different of us.
It asks us to slow down enough to restore ourselves.
Rest is not a reward.
It’s a necessity.
When we allow ourselves to rest, we give our bodies and minds the space to recover. We begin to think more clearly. We feel more grounded. We start to reconnect with ourselves in a way that constant movement doesn’t allow.
Rest doesn’t mean you’re falling behind.
It doesn’t mean you’re not doing enough.
It simply means you’re taking care of yourself in a way that supports your healing.
Sometimes rest looks like taking a nap in the middle of the day.
Sometimes it looks like saying no to something that feels like too much.
Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly with a cup of coffee or tea and doing nothing at all.
Sometimes it looks like going to bed earlier and letting yourself fully unwind.
And that is enough.
Healing isn’t about how much you can carry.
It’s about knowing when to set it down.
If you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, or stretched too thin, maybe rest is exactly what you need right now.
Not because you’ve earned it.
But because you need it.
What does rest look like for you right now?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
Healing doesn’t happen all at once.
It unfolds in quiet moments, small choices, and the courage to keep showing up for yourself.
One step at a time.
