For a long time, I didn’t want to feel everything. There were some days, I didn’t want to feel anything!
If something hurt, I tried to move past it quickly. If something made me uncomfortable, I pushed it aside. I told myself to stay strong, to keep going, to not let emotions slow me down.
So I kept moving.
And I got really good at not feeling.
But over time, I started to realize something I didn’t expect.
The feelings I avoided… didn’t go away.
They stayed.
Quietly, beneath the surface. Waiting. Showing up in ways I didn’t always understand.
Sometimes healing looks like feeling your feelings.
It looks like allowing yourself to sit with what’s really there instead of pushing it aside.
It looks like acknowledging the hurt, the frustration, the sadness… without trying to rush past it.
It looks like giving yourself permission to feel without judgment.
For many of us, this can feel uncomfortable.
We’ve been taught to stay strong.
To not dwell on things.
To keep moving forward, no matter what.
But healing often asks something different of us.
It asks us to be honest.
When we begin to feel our feelings, we start to understand them. We begin to recognize what we’ve been carrying and why it’s been so heavy. We give ourselves the chance to process instead of suppress.
Feeling doesn’t make you weak.
It doesn’t mean you’re falling apart.
It means you’re allowing yourself to heal.
Sometimes feeling your feelings looks like sitting quietly and letting the emotions come up.
Sometimes it looks like journaling what’s on your heart.
Sometimes it looks like crying without trying to stop it.
Sometimes it looks like admitting, “This hurts more than I thought it would.”
And that is okay.
Healing isn’t about avoiding what’s hard.
It’s about allowing yourself to move through it.
If you’ve been pushing your feelings aside, maybe this is your reminder that you don’t have to.
You can feel it.
You can process it.
You can move through it… one moment at a time.
What is one feeling you’ve been avoiding that might need your attention right now?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Healing doesn’t happen all at once.
It unfolds in quiet moments, small choices, and the courage to keep showing up for yourself.
One step at a time.
